On 4th December 2024, the Political Geography Research Group (PolGRG) hosted one of the RGS-IBG’s Mentoring series webinars. Thank you to everyone who took part!
We are now delighted to be able to share the recording from the event, below.
The webinar aimed to provide especially early-career scholars and postgraduate students with useful insights and guidance regarding different academic career pathways, and how to navigate the current job market. In the context of the neoliberalisation of higher education – where pressures around productivity, funding, and job security are escalating – the event also focused on the importance of offering support, collaboration, and mentorship.
As part of the webinar, two political geographers – Professor Nick Clarke and Dr Hannah Sender – talked about their experiences on job panels and applying for fellowships and grants: Hannah on her experience in successfully applying for an ESRC Postdoctoral Grant and Leverhulme Fellowship; and Nick on his experience on job panels for lectureship and teaching positions.
For those unable to make the event in early December, you can watch the webinar here. (not including the breakout rooms where participants discussed their own specific questions).
